Smartwatch Innovation Project

Conceptualized and designed a smartwatch prototype of ScienceLogic’s flagship product in Figma, earning 2nd place in a company-wide Innovation Week and leading to a developer-backed proof of concept.

Role: Lead UX Designer

Duration: 3 days

OVERVIEW

Twice a year, ScienceLogic hosts Innovation Blitz—a 3-day hackathon for engineers to explore new ideas. With a newly hired UX manager and a junior teammate, I led a UX-focused project from concept to podium.

As lead designer, I drove our team’s success by:

01 Defining the vision through storyboarding and user flows

02 Rapidly prototyping the concept in Figma

03 Crafting a compelling narrative to deliver a standout demo

01 THE VISION

Setting the stage with storyboarding and user flows

With a new UX manager onboard, we set out to explore an ambitious idea: designing a smartwatch app concept for a platform not yet supported on mobile.

We kicked off by storyboarding high-value use cases that could realistically fit both the limited timeframe and the constraints of a smartwatch interface. These storyboards helped align the team and shape the narrative for our Innovation Blitz demo.

From there, I translated the concepts into detailed user flows, laying the groundwork for rapid prototyping.

02 BRINGING IT TO LIFE

Rapidly prototyping our vision in Figma

With defined user flows, I began sourcing smartwatch UI inspiration to guide our design approach. Since our existing design system lacked mobile and wearable components, we pulled from external resources to bridge the gap.

Adopting a fast-paced, design sprint mindset, we moved quickly from sketches to high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to bring our concept to life.

03 SHOWTIME

Using storytelling for a compelling demo

After rounds of iteration and feedback, we brought our smartwatch prototype to life with a playful, story-driven demo — acting out a vacation scenario to highlight the product’s on-the-go ease. The presentation was a hit, earning 2nd place among 20+ entries and sparking leadership interest. A developer was assigned to build a working prototype, and we revisited the project the following year, placing in the top 3 with a functional coded version.
